Sebastian Rodriguez
ResearcherSebastian is an engineer and digital humanities researcher for metaLAB, where he merges technical expertise with humanistic inquiry to explore the complex interplay between emerging technologies and society. His work aims to uncover the opportunities and challenges that arise from these technologies, promoting a critical understanding of their impact on everyday life. His interdisciplinary research spans the digital humanities, privacy and surveillance, critical security studies, university pedagogy, and the ethics, transparency, and governance of AI.
Alongside his work at metaLAB, Sebastian is pursuing an MSc in Social Science of the Internet at the Oxford Internet Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Information from the University of Toronto, where he contributed to a range of projects as a research assistant. These included Failure: Learning in Progress (FLIP), the Manchester-Melbourne-Toronto Beyond Disinformation Project, The Ouroboros Project: How Private Militaries are Transforming America, and Dark Patterns: Where Marketing Meets UX Design. He also worked as a research engineer for the Society for Teaching & Learning in Higher Education, where he played a key role in building the 2022 3M Reflective Teaching Project.
